THE AGE OF TRADITION: ORNAMENTED WATCHES – 1800 to 1915
In the 19th century, watches for women became ornamental, transforming into decorated pendants, brooches, and bracelets, reflecting traditional roles.
THE AGE OF FREEDOM: MINIATURISED WATCHES – 1920 to 1930
Women's newfound independence led to miniaturised watches, often hidden in slender bracelets. Jaeger-LeCoultre's Calibre 101, the world's smallest mechanical movement, was unveiled in 1929.
THE AGE OF EMANCIPATION: SHAPED WATCHES – 1940 to 1970
As women's roles shifted, watches evolved from miniaturised jewels to bold, sculptural forms, becoming a statement of identity and emancipation.
THE AGE OF LEADERSHIP: COMPLICATION WATCHES – 1970 TO TODAY
From the 1970s, women's leadership was reflected in watchmaking through high complications, previously for men, now integrated into feminine horology, exemplified by Jaeger-LeCoultre's Rendez-Vous and Reverso.
